Bern 2023

October 25-27 Bern, Switzerland
Commitment to the next generations and the quest for new ways to shape a sustainably positive future were the main drivers for “CREATE THE MAGIC! – for a better tomorrow”. Creaviva, Zentrum Paul Klee and Hands On! International Association of Children in Museums were the hosts and facilitators in Bern from 25 – 27 October 2023. The 14th Hands On! Conference was, with its inspiring keynotes and interactive salons, the ideal platform to deepen and practice topics such as change, participation, society, finance and leadership. Our change makers got to experience many magical moments and educational processes at various locations in Creaviva, Zentrum Paul Klee and the UNESCO capital Berne.

Theme Description

Together with 160 other curators and future designers, our participants learned how to make their scientifically or culturally oriented institution more fit for the future and how to shape their offers more participatory. The variety of socially relevant topics helped our change makers to question themselves, their actions and their institutions, and to improve your effectiveness.

In the crisis, it depends on these change makers and the next generations, you know that. This value-based conference “CREATE THE MAGIC! – for a better tomorrow” gave the participants the chance to take a suitcase full of powerful inspiration and fresh energies with them into their professional lives.

At the conference, we opened various windows into the future, to bring change towards an economically, ecologically and socially more sustainable world. This was facilitated with a lot of confidence, unconventional initiatives and new partnerships.

We shared best practices, tried out new working methods, and experimented with artistic interventions. A major goal of the conference was to promote exchange and work together on concrete strategies, enabling participants to return to their institutions and countries with inspiration and courage, equipped with concrete measures as well as pragmatic instructions for action. We aimed to have an impact beyond the conference and improve the world of tomorrow together with children as protagonists. In this sense, our conference reflected the Creaviva claim: «Those who shape, change the world.»
